Bradford Design & Tesseract Team Building

 Aaron Bradford Starr is a published artist, writer, and game designer with a history presenting to and teaching a varied array of audiences and subject matters. Interested in self-directed as well as collaborative efforts, he educates children and adults on a variety of topics. Current projects include teambuilding initiatives as well as working with elementary-school aged children struggling with academic subjects not simply to improve grades, but modify both outlook and confidence. He began teaching in private schools and through numerous local organizations, where he developed art, literature and math curriculums. 

Artist

 

Aaron Starr is a classically-trained artist with numerous cover, illustration, and design credits in a variety of markets, as well as both traditional and digital 2-D and 3-D design and animation, as well as traditional sculpture and pottery. Some highlights include:

  • The Scout series: Painted cover art for multi-volume book series (Scout's Honor, Scout's Oath, Scout's Duty, Scout's Law) by Henry Vogel
  • Stupefying Stories Magazine: Cover art for various issues
  • The Throwback Anthology: Cover art for anthology by Rampant Loon Media
  • Black Gate Magazine: Interior Black and White illustration


He has worked freelance and for private clients for many years. He has taught private lessons and classes to both individuals and groups of all ages  both at private schools, and through numerous local organizations, where he developed art, literature, and math curriculums.

Writer

Aaron is a published author, and experienced creative writing and literature teacher. He is a published author of numerous novellas and short stories, as well as dozens of technical writing projects for a variety of target audiences. Four novels currently under consideration for publication. Some highlights include:

  • The Gallery Hunters: A multi-story fantasy series published by Black Gate Magazine, including The Daughter's Dowry, The Highwater Harbor, The Teamaker's Task, and The Sealord's Successor
  • The Daughter's Dowry: Awarded Best Novelette by Tangent Online for 2013
  • Cog Noscenti: Cover story for Stupefying Stories, March 2012
  • Mortal Star: Fantasy short story published by Black Gate Magazine, and later included in the Warrior Women anthology.
  • First Impressions: First published in Stupefying Stories, and later included in the Five Star Stories anthology


Puzzle and Game Design

 Aaron designs puzzles and games developed and tested  in a variety of formats. Game design includes board games, card games, and group interactive games for both entertainment and educational use. In addition, a number of original digital format games and game app designs are currently in production and slated for release within the year. Puzzle designs include both novelty and “executive desktop” style puzzles, as well as mass-market boxed game puzzles.

  • Shepherds and Sheep, Jungle Jam, and Tomb Police: Accepted for publication by Cadaco, Inc.
  • Colossus : Winner of the Live Oak Games Siegestones Design Competition
  • Safehouse, a second-place winner of the Pyromyth Card Game Design Competition
  • Pen-and-paper logic puzzles Shinshinka, Kaisoku, and Hatsuden: Puzzle books currently in production
  • Game puzzles Factory Floor, Data Cubes, and Mingus: Currently licensed for use by Tesseract Teambuilding.


Programming & Instruction

 

Aaron has developed curriculum and taught in classroom setting at private schools, as single-day workshops, and as a personal tutor for adults, neuro-typical, special needs and neuro-diverse children, and the elderly. Subject matter included academic areas such as math (basic arithmetic through Trigonometry), Literature (the elements of fiction, writing nonfiction prose, and poetry), Science (The History of Science, Medieval Engineering, The History of Aviation), and various topics in Art (Drawing, Painting, Pottery, and Sculpture). In addition, he has taught a within number of non-academic settings as well, including physical instruction with children and adults in the Japanese martial art of Aikido and various self-defense seminars. 

Some highlights include:

  • The Science of Science Fiction: Recurring one-day workshop for undergraduate physics students at Case Western Reserve University.
  • Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland: Developed and delivered gallery-based and hands-on art workshop for preschool groups.
  • Math without Math: Hands-on workshop for children ages 10-16 who struggle with math, introducing them to mathematical concepts apart from numbers through the medium of board games.
  •  Imaginary Worlds: Taught a multi-week workshop for children of incarcerated parents combining aspects of writing, art, and other creative works as both self-expression and a coping strategy.
  • Game Design Basics: Delivered a full-day hands-on workshop covering an entire elementary school, culminating in group projects wherein each group designs an original board game.
